Rain has caused flash flooding in the region, with heavy rain falling in the north-eastern and eastern parts of Victoria since Saturday.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall in large parts of central and east Gippsland.
Places like Orbost, Johnsonville, Paynesville and Mount Moornappa have recorded rainfall in excess of 100 millimetres since Saturday.
Traffic was slowed on Sunday on the Princes Highway near Johnsonville, with excessive water running across the road.
The Avon River at Stratford has risen significantly in a short time, but major flooding isn’t expected.
The rain and decrease in temperature has given some relief from the hot temperatures experienced throughout Victoria in February and January.
