Forty members of Bairnsdale community choir, Harmony Scholars, dressed in colourful clothing as they entertained more than 100 people on Tuesday, March 25, at the Picnic Point Hall.
Residents from local retirement homes and relatives and friends of choir members thoroughly enjoyed singing 31 songs like Road to Gundagai, Pack Up Your Troubles, The Happy Wanderer, I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover, and Over the Rainbow.
Having the lyrics on a huge screen enabled the audience to sing with gusto along with the choir.
There were solos by Suzi Roberts, Mark Dale, Bridie Christie, Lionel Pollard, Flora Russel and Adrian Bond; duets, trios, and quartets by Robert and Gill Morpeth, Sam Thomas, Ineke Child, Faye Betts, Gayle English, Ann Sims, Diana Auld, Rosie Jans, Rob Eldridge and Alan Walker.
Four lucky door prizes added to the excitement and a joke told by pianist Lyn Winnett resulted in loud laughter from everyone.
Ginny Vincent, the temporary choir conductor, encouraged the singing with her own unique enthusiastic style, ensuring the afternoon was a huge success.
A delicious afternoon tea was served and comments from people, such as “the best concert I’ve been to”, “singing those old numbers made me so very happy”, were wonderful to hear.
Harmony Scholars is looking forward to singing at the Choir Festival in May, and presenting another public concert in a few months time.
