Bairnsdale City Oval was the place to be last Saturday as the Gippsland League kicked off what is expected to be a blockbuster football season across all local competitions.
The Redlegs may have lost their round one encounter to arguably the league benchmark in Moe, however showed plenty of positive signs in their first outing under new coach Kane Ashwood, with big man Ethan East (pictured) a standout in defence and the ruck.
This weekend sees the East Gippsland Football Netball League season get underway with reigning premier Boisdale Briagolong taking on Stratford, both teams welcoming new coaches for season 2025 – brothers Jake and Kade Renooy for the Bombers and former Lindenow South premiership coach Nathan Pollard taking the reins for the Swans.
The Omeo District Football Netball League also kicks off with reigning champion Omeo Benambra hosting Swifts Creek in a grand final rematch.
