The members of The East Gippsland Cancer Support Group recently met for their monthly meeting and celebrated 26 years of support and care to many members and members of the public over that time frame.
The group invited Mr John Childs to be guest speaker on this day.
John gave a detailed presentation on living with type 2 diabetes and the challenges along the way.
John went on to tell the group how he had lived in Bairnsdale when his father was posted here with the police force in 1958.
Recalling his memory of this time, he remembered 6pm closing for the local hotels.
He shared a few hilarious anecdotes of characters he met during his early years here in East Gippsland.
After leaving school John became apprenticed as a diesel and motor mechanic.
