Showers for homeless

Bairnsdale Neighbourhood House has recently taken possession of a purpose-built mobile en suite facility which boasts two showers, dual toilets, and two washing machines and dryers.
The amenities cubicle trailer, made by Jayco, has been at the Neighbourhood House in Bairnsdale’s Dalmahoy Street for little more than a week and its popularity has quickly spread through the homeless community.
“There’s been such a demand for showers and washing facilities that we’re now going to plumb it into the sewerage system,” coordinator of the House, Leanne Jennings, told the Advertiser.
Ms Jennings says the facility is open 24/7 and is being utilised by about 20-30 people in a 24-hour cycle.
She said overnight and early morning seem to be the most popular times.
