As part of the hugely successful East Gippsland Field Days last Friday and Saturday at the Bairnsdale Aerodrome, the East Gippsland Farm Dog Group ran some dog trial events that were well received by spectators.
Friday saw the staging of the Novice and Encourage division, with the more skilled Open and Improver categories taking place on Saturday.
It was a local victory in the Open, with Buchan’s Andrew Whelan tasting success with Whelans Run Burls, who was a clear winner from Phil James’ Jindi Lexie with another Whelan trained dog, Whelans Run Victor.
In the improvers, the winner was Hilton Park Banjo, prepared by Roland Pell, who narrowly defeated Ben Bowman’s Bowman Baz and Ben Dixon’s Check.
The novice was hotly contested four dogs tied after the first round, with the eventual winner, Bowman’s Bowman Rosie, with Pell’s Tundabardi Kasey second and Dixon’s Check picking up another third.
The encourage was won by Molly Ross’ Jess, by a narrow margin from Zack Redpath’s Tundardi Poppie and Rach Land’s Shaundar Zip-Tie.
The dogs were very well behaved considering the huge crowds in attendance.
