Since 2015 the Mitchell River Lodge No.742, (Freemasons Victoria), has made a significant donation annually in the form of a scholarship to two year 12 students from Bairnsdale Secondary College, who have met a certain criteria including continuing on to tertiary education without taking a gap year.
On February 5 2025, representatives from the Lodge presented scholarships to two students, Naomey Gillies who has been accepted by the University of New England in Armadale, New South Wales, to study a Bachelor of arts/science with a major in archaeology and zoology, and Sophie Hoxley who will be attending Melbourne University to study arts with a major in history.
The scholarships are made up equally from funds from the Mitchell River Masonic Lodge in Bairnsdale and the Freemasons Foundation, being part of Freemasons Victoria.
