Kmart has been given the green light by the State Government to build on the Princes Highway in Bairnsdale, near the corner of Calvert Street.
The Planning Minister, Richard Wynne, has made a special amendment to the East Gippsland Shire’s planning scheme to allow the project to proceed.
The Kmart group had applied for consideration, through the Priority Projects Program, which has the ability to fast track applications, after the East Gippsland Shire Council expressed concern about Kmart potentially splitting Bairnsdale’s CBD by choosing to occupy the West Bairnsdale site.
