It’s been more than two decades since respected Gunai Elder, Marjorie Thorpe, last contested a Federal election.
Ms Thorpe, a Lake Tyers resident, has lived in Gippsland for decades and contested the Federal seat of Gippsland, as an Independent candidate against then sitting National Party member, Peter McGauran, in 1998.
Fast forward more than two decades and Ms Thorpe is contesting the same seat, this time as a Greens Party candidate, against the incumbent, Darren Chester, who represents the Nationals.
Ms Thorpe says the environment is a key issue of the forthcoming election.
She nominates the health of the forests, native vegetation, rivers and animals as essential to social wellbeing.
