Bairnsdale Regional Health Service volunteers were celebrated for their hard work and commitment to our community with an afternoon tea.
The event, held at Bairnsdale’s New Leaf Café, coincided with National Volunteer Week
(May 19 to 25).
BRHS Board Chair Sandy Leggat, Acting CEO Kathy Kinrade and members of the BRHS executive and staff all joined the volunteers to say thank you for the hard work they do on behalf of the community.
“We see our volunteers in the same way that we see our paid workforce. The volunteers do so much work and help to keep BRHS ticking with the support for our team and our patients,” Sandy said.
“They perform a range of important tasks around the hospital, do things like provide transport for patients and they perform fundraising work that allows us to provide little extras that help our staff and improve the experience for our patients. Our annual volunteers’
afternoon tea shows how
much we appreciate them.”
Attendees were asked to write down thew reasons they volunteer for BRHS. Here are a few quotes from them.
“Giving to the community.”
“Volunteering satisfies intrinsic desires.”
“My way of helping the hospital that helped me when I had a serious illness years ago. I intended to work for a year or so – but enjoyed my time at the hospital and have worked there for about 38 years!”
“The reasons I like to be a volunteer at BRHS:
1. Connecting with people
2. Wonderful feeling you are contributing to the patient and staff
3. Giving back to the community
4. We are offering a service to all
5. Someone to talk to.”
Thank you from BRHS to our volunteers, and all volunteers who make East Gippsland such a great place to live. If you would like to volunteer with BRHS, please contact volunteer coordinator Susan Wharfe.
