The Omeo District netball premiership appears to be Omeo Benambra’s to lose after the unbeaten ladder leader outclassed second-placed Swan Reach at home during round 13 action.
The reigning premiers were at their ruthless best, capitalising on every turnover as they ran out incredible 35-goal winners, leaving their opponent demoralised and left to ponder how they can cause an unlikely upset.
The Alpine Ranges’ total season domination has already seen six of their “A” grade team invited to the Omeo and District Football Netball League best and fairest count after the final round of matches – Indi Ahsam, Natalie Mitchell, Emma Bates, Claire Martyn, Sophie Ahsam and Lily Hawkins all
received an invite.
The third and fourth-placed sides on the ladder, Bruthen and Lindenow South both suffered surprising defeats.
Swifts Creek scored its second win of the season when it got over the line by a solitary goal against Lindenow South at the Swamp.
It won’t be enough to get the Demons off the bottom of the ladder, but it will give them some much-needed momentum going into the final two rounds of the season.
Buchan kept its hopes of sneaking into
the finals alive with a great 30-23 win over arch rival Bruthen.
The Wilmas had all the answers when challenged in the second half and victory this week over Lindenow South at home would see them leapfrog the Swampies and
take fourth place.
Victory for Lindenow South would seal
their finals spot.
In other matches Omeo Benambra will be too slick for Bruthen at home, while Swan Reach will be keen to return to the winners’ list against Swifts Creek.
