Earlier this month, about 50 police veterans and legatees gathered at Bairnsdale Police Station alongside current members for a special event that celebrated the legacy, service and ongoing connection between past and present.
Police Veterans Victoria, Veteran Peer Support Officers and Speakers Bureau participant Tony Lyle spoke about the
work of Police Veterans Victoria and the importance of staying connected
after service.
The event featured a few important tributes, including Inspector Mark Rossiter unveiling the new senior sergeant Jack Hirst most outstanding constable award, honouring a former officer in charge of Bairnsdale.
Superintendent Mark Edwards announced a new Police Operations Centre to be named after the late sergeant Ian “Salty” Gilmore, a beloved advocate for veterans
and legatees
Leading senior constable, Allison Triggs shared details on the East Gippsland Seniors Register, whilst the gathering was honoured to welcome an interstate veteran from the Tasmania Police.
Police veterans love days like this and like nothing more than returning
to the police station for some fellowship.
