Some nice fish have been landed throughout the region on the weekend, putting a smile on some grateful anglers’ faces.
Mitchell River: Levels in the rivers have dropped after the recent substantial rainfall in the East Gippsland area. Try the river mouth for flathead using blue bait and soft plastics. Plenty of cars on the Bairnsdale-Paynesville Road usually means the fish are keen to get on the hook.
Tambo River: From Clues Bluff, Marshalls Flat and down to The Snags try using fresh mussels and sandworm for bait.
Nicholson River: Try Pear Tree, the Swimming Hole and into Jones Bay for flathead and bream. Best bait is prawn, though there are some mullet to be had on other options.
Metung: Boxes Creek, Chinamans Creek, marina, rock wall, town jetties and Shaving Point are all active spots.
Paynesville/Hollands Landing: Bream are biting around the town jetties, with crab, lures, and mussels to get the best results. For a change, try near the banks with prawns.
Marlo: Salmon are active in the channel. Stick to the usual baits for solid results.
Bemm River: Try the surf beach for salmon and tailor taking metal lures.
Lakes Entrance: Bream are around biting on prawn, shrimp and spider crab. Bullock Island is also having good results using pipis and blue bait. Surf beaches for salmon taking metal lures and pilchards, with flathead being landed off Eastern Beach.
Lake Tyers: Nice-sized bream and flathead are around.
