Lindenow South resident, Claire Davidson, was diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy eight years ago.
The mother of two schoolchildren, aged 12 and eight, needs to make weekly trips to Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne for plasmapheresis – a medical procedure which involves exchanging her blood plasma for donor plasma.
Every Wednesday morning, she boards an Angel Flight at Bairnsdale Airport to make the journey to Melbourne.
The plane lands at Moorabbin where a taxi collects the single mother to transport her to Monash to receive her treatment.
She is later taken back to the airport for the return flight back to Bairnsdale.
It’s a routine she has become used to. While it is a big day for her each Wednesday, organising her children off to school and then getting herself ready for the flight, Ms Davidson concedes it is far better than making the trip by car which would mean at least a six-hour return trip.
