Bairnsdale Croquet Club recently finalised its 2025 Doubles Tournament 2025.
Staged on September 20, the event was run in two sections, with five double pairings in each section.
There was a playoff of the two section winners to determine the overall winner of the shield last Thursday.
Players had to compete with the cold and squally conditions and everyone did extremely well.
Afternoon tea and social interaction were enjoyed by all at the conclusion of play.
Winners in section one were Heather and Roger Bradbury (three wins, one loss and plus eight hoops), narrowly finishing ahead of Ann Guy and Betty Richards (three wins, one loss and plus seven hoops).
In section two the winners were Dennis Saxton and Graeme Bennett (three wins, one loss and plus eight hoops), clear victors from Anne Flavell and Wayne Faithfull (two wins, two losses and plus three).
The grand final, as expected, was a close tussle and could have gone either way. In the end Saxton and Bennett won the match 7-6.
Bairnsdale Croquet Club is still attracting new members. To further reach out to community members who have not yet tried the sport, a twilight ‘Come and Try’ session will be held on Friday, October 17 starting at 4pm, during Seniors Week.
All equipment will be provided with some nibbles after the tryouts.
