Lucknow Football Netball Club has appointed Steve Henry as its senior coach
for 2026.
Henry replaces Shaun Mooney who is now the senior coach at Morwell after finishing his tenure at the Magpies with a narrow grand final loss to arch rival Wy Yung.
Mooney also coached the club to the last match in September in 2024 where it was beaten by Boisdale Briagolong.
Henry brings more than 15 years of coaching experience, including three years coaching under 18 football, four years as a senior assistant at Morwell East, and four years as a senior assistant at Traralgon including the 2015 Gippsland League premiership.
He was the senior coach at Glengarry for four years and after a couple of years off to spend time with his young family, he is ready to
join Lucknow.
In 2026, Mel George will take on the role of development coach, continuing his solid contribution at the nest in recent seasons.
Henry will be assisted in 2026 by a couple of youngsters in Matt Corbett and Ricky Tatnell.
Corbett impressed in the home and away season for the Magpies in his first year in 2025, finishing runner-up in the club best and fairest before being felled by a hamstring injury in the finals which kept him out of the grand final.
Prior to joining the Magpies, he played 50 senior games at Bairnsdale and was the club captain in 2021.
Tatnell crosses from the Redlegs after 127 senior Gippsland League games. He’s a former under 16 captain and premiership player with the Magpies.
Both bring leadership, passion and plenty of experience to help guide the senior Magpies group into another big year.
The reserves in 2026 will be coached by Leigh Stephenson and Ry Mutimer.
Stephenson is black and white to the core – debuting in the under 13s in 1997, he has accumulated 400 club games (record holder),
is a life member, multiple reserves best and fairest winner and three time reserves premiership player.
Mutimer was the 2018 reserves best and fairest winner in a premiership year and helped guide the reserves to a premiership in 2024.
The club will hold its annual general meeting on Sunday, November 23 at 11am at
the clubrooms.
They would love to see players, parents, volunteers and supporters come along, and take the great chance to get involved and have your say for next season.
