They might be the new kid on the block, but Meerlieu is making a bold statement
in the Bairnsdale Cricket Association
women’s competition.
After two matches they sit on top of the ladder having accounted for the other two sides, Paynesville and Lucknow, in the opening two weeks.
In round two they defeated the Magpies by 55 runs at the Lucknow Recreation Reserve.
Batting first the Tussocks scored 5/151 from their 20-over allotment, highlighted by unbeaten knocks from Kelsey East (30), Adelle O’Doherty (23) and Tegan Bull (24).
In reply they restricted the enthusiastic Magpies to 3/96, led by quality knocks from Lily Bastian (30), Monique Fisher (24) and Aleka Hutton (18).
East also impressed with the ball taking 2/8 as the Tussocks sured up the win with some tight and impressive fielding.
In this week’s match Paynesville will
host Lucknow on the synthetic at AJ
Freeman Reserve.
