A tradition sparked more than a decade ago by former teacher David Williamson has once again brought together past Bairnsdale High School students for a well-attended reunion luncheon in Melbourne.
In 2013, Williamson issued a call for all students taught under the late and much-loved “Boof” McLeod to gather for a reunion. Many answered, and the success of that first event established an annual November tradition — paused only during the COVID years. Former students now travel from across Australia, with attendees representing most states.
The most recent gathering, held in November at the William Angliss Institute, drew an impressive crowd. The city-based venue continues to be a convenient and popular choice for country visitors making the trip.
Organisers were especially delighted to welcome more ex-students from the 1960s, whose presence added to the warm atmosphere and sense of shared history.
There was also a moment of reflection and appreciation for Williamson, who was able to see the joy and camaraderie sparked by the event he initiated more than a decade ago.
Attendees also extended heartfelt thanks to Bill Roussac for his dedication in keeping the reunion tradition alive and offered a warm welcome to Robert Latimer, who will now take on the role of emcee.
Planning is already underway for the next reunion in November 2026, with organisers hoping to see even more alumni from the 1960s era in attendance.
