East Gippsland locals are opening their hearts this festive season with a special initiative aimed at ensuring no one in the community spends Christmas hungry or alone.
On Christmas Eve, the volunteer group, A Place at the Table, will host a free community lunch at The Hub, serving around 200 meals to anyone in need of a good meal and
some company.
The group, made up entirely of local volunteers, is not a registered charity or organisation. Instead, its members simply want to make a difference in the community, with 100 per cent of donations going directly to helping locals.
A Place at the Table is all about kindness, connection and care.
It is bringing the community together to share a meal and a welcoming space where everyone has a seat at the table.
The lunch aims to provide not just food, but a sense of inclusion for those who may be alone or struggling this Christmas. The event also offers an opportunity for community members to contribute through donations of food vouchers, funds, or volunteering their time.
As a token of appreciation, donations over $100 will be acknowledged on the group’s “Generosity Board” displayed at the event, offering a public thank-you from
the community.
