Multiple bushfire incidents were reported across Victoria’s High Country over the weekend, with authorities urging residents to remain vigilant as fire danger rises with the approaching heat.
A bushfire located about 15.2 kilometres east of Suggan Buggan was still being monitored by emergency services but has since been listed as under control, easing concerns for communities close to the area. Another fire near Cobungra, reported close to Spring Creek Track, was also brought under control by the end of the weekend, according to the latest incident updates. Emergency crews continue to patrol affected areas as conditions evolve.
While not currently under active emergency warnings in East Gippsland, the regional fire outlook shows fire danger ratings set to climb. The Bureau of Meteorology’s four–day forecast indicates that parts of East Gippsland may reach ‘High’ fire danger later this week as temperatures trend above average and dry conditions persist. Residents are advised that fire danger can escalate quickly during extended warm spells, particularly when hot, dry winds develop.
The current fire season outlook for eastern Victoria suggests ongoing potential for bushfires as dry vegetation becomes increasingly susceptible to ignition if sustained heat arrives. Emergency services and fire management agencies continue to prepare for heightened risk as summer progresses.
Communities close to bushland and rural fire–prone areas should remain alert and review household fire plans, keep up to date with warnings and ensure preparedness should conditions deteriorate.
