The Tambo Upper Trail Riding Club will begin its 2026 season with the first ride on Sunday, January 18. The ride will be led by local rider Debbie Carstairs, departing from the corner of Scriveners Road and Lakes-Colquhoun Road near Lakes Entrance.
Debbie, who knows the area well, will guide riders along bush trails, gullies, single tracks and 4WD tracks. A compulsory unmounted muster will be held at 9.45am, so participants are advised to arrive early to saddle up. The ride will start at 10am sharp.
The club’s December ride was the annual Christmas Ride at Sarsfield, led by Pauline Garry. Riders enjoyed a relaxing two-hour morning ride followed by a festive lunch. Participants came from Sale, Briagolong, Maffra, Lakes Entrance and surrounding areas of Bairnsdale.
The Christmas lunch featured chicken, ham, salads and desserts, with plenty of recipe swapping. Santa made a special appearance to oversee the Kris Kringle gift exchange, bringing laughter and cheer to all in attendance.
Vouchers for local horse shops were drawn for lucky members:
– Lead Rider: Jackie Whiting, Swan Reach
– Committee: Karen Brown, Myrtlebank
– New member for 2025: Phoebe Persendorfer, Tambo Upper
– General club members: Yvette Waller, Granite Rock; Sally Bass, Maffra
– Best Christmas decorated horse: Sue Cullinan and Ellie, Wy Yung
Tambo rides are held on the third Sunday of every month and cater to most riding standards. Visitors are welcome, and juniors are encouraged to attend if accompanied by a guardian and able to ride independently.
