With a simple flick of the bails by Orbost wicketkeeper Jayden Price, the Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA) “A” grade grand final was over and the celebrations were underway.
The Blues dominated the match from start to finish against Lindenow South Glenaladale at the AJ Freeman Reserve in Paynesville last weekend, rewarded with their fifth premiership in the 100th BCA grand final.
It was redemption on two fronts for the Blues, for their defeat in last year’s finale against Wy Yung, and also for the 2015/2016 grand final when they were narrowly defeated by Lindenow South Glenaladale.
There was no happier man post game than Mikael Hulme, who has played in all five Orbost premierships. For brother Alex, it was his third, while Max Welsh, Luke Endley and Dylan Jordan now have two medals.
The toss was always going to be important, the wicket in outstanding order, and Blues skipper Welsh had no hesitation in batting when the flip favoured him.
