Buchan Police Station officer, Leading Senior Constable Ray Moreland, was honoured this week in the Federal Australian Bravery Decorations.
LSC Moreland was awarded the Commendation For Bravery decoration which is the fourth highest bravery award in Australia.
The award was in recognition of the rescue of an elderly couple in Buchan during the 2019 Black Summer Bushfires that impacted East Gippsland.
LSC Moreland and his partner, Leading Senior Constable Andrew Trace, attended the burning house of Ian and Gwen Strobridge on the outskirts of Buchan on the night of the bushfire.
Their actions on that night saved the lives of the Strobridge’s, who lost their house in the bushfire, but have since rebuilt.
