Women interested in learning more about fishing are invited to attend a special session on February 7 at the Nicholson Angling Clubrooms (915 Princes Highway, Nicholson) from 10am to 1pm.
The workshop will focus on fishing with soft plastics and lures, under the guidance of local tournament angler and Bairnsdale CrewPod leader Ruth Beeby.
The event is hosted by the Women’s Recreational Fishing League (WRFL), which aims to encourage more women to participate in fishing. WRFL creator and president Jo Starling said the program empowers women by breaking down limiting beliefs and supporting success in the traditionally male-dominated sport of competitive angling.
“Competitive fishing teaches vital skills such as self-reliance, self-efficacy, and self-confidence,” Starling said.
“These lessons extend far beyond the water, helping women tackle life’s challenges with newfound strength.”
Beeby, a local competitor in the Hobie Kayak Bream Fishing Series, VicBream, and ABT tournaments, will lead the Bairnsdale CrewPod, which plans to hold monthly meetings. Partnering with the WRFL, the Nicholson Angling Club will provide a safe and welcoming environment for women to discuss all aspects of recreational fishing.
