The Meerlieu Fire Brigade has taken delivery of a new tanker, marking a significant upgrade for the team.
Steve O’Shea from the District Mechanical Workshop (DMO) workshop delivered the 2012 2.4C Medium Tanker to the brigade last Tuesday, replacing the brigade’s 2000 3.4D Heavy Tanker, which has proudly served the community for the past nine years.
The outgoing tanker has been a dependable workhorse, clocking almost 50,000 kilometres—a testament to both the appliance itself and the dedication of the crew who maintained and operated it over the years.
The new truck, while modern and more comfortable, will not be placed into full service immediately. Brigade members will undergo training to ensure they are fully confident operating the different appliance, a process expected to take a few weeks. Residents may spot the tanker out and about during this familiarisation period.
The brigade expressed gratitude to District 10 for recognising their ongoing efforts to enhance capability and support local safety by allocating a newer appliance.
The upgrade promises a safer, more efficient, and more comfortable experience for firefighters responding to emergencies, ensuring the Meerlieu Fire Brigade is well-equipped for the challenges ahead.
