Paynesville Football Netball Club was delighted to recently announce the signing of Alex Saunders.
The recruitment of the 2025 Omeo and District Football Netball League best and fairest winner is viewed by the club as a major boost for its football program, signalling a clear statement of intent and an important step forward in the direction the Gulls are aiming to head.
Saunders is expected to bring elite skill to Paynesville, with the club hopeful his arrival will generate momentum, build belief and continue the raising of standards across the entire club.
The Gulls see Saunders as a proven competitor and respected leader who embodies professionalism, a strong work ethic and a genuine drive to succeed.
In other notable East Gippsland Football Netball League signings, Ben Brunt has joined Boisdale Briagolong for the
2026 season.
The versatile player arrives at the Bombers from Southern Football League club Springvale Districts. Brunt has played almost 150 senior games, including 100 at Gippsland League club Maffra, where he was part of a senior premiership side.
His contested work at ground level and in the air, combined with his athletic ability, is expected to make him a force to be reckoned with in the EGFNL.
Brunt is looking forward to lining up alongside his twin brother Will, a senior premiership player with the Bombers. He also previously played a handful of matches with Orbost Snowy Rovers in 2017 and 2019.
