With the temporary closure of the Bairnsdale Outdoor Pool and the current closure of the often overcrowded indoor pool, Bairnsdale currently has no operational swimming facilities — just as temperatures reach peak summer highs.
Many local families are now driving to Orbost and Stratford for a swim.
Genevieve Wilks, president of the Save the Outdoor Pool committee, said the group is preparing to present a community petition of more than 1500 signatures at the next council meeting on Tuesday, February 17.
The meeting, or communications beforehand, is expected to provide clarity on the council’s plans for the pool’s future.
The committee hopes council will make a considered and positive decision, refurbishing the outdoor pool in line with standards set by other regional councils and responding to the community’s strong support for its preservation.
