Bairnsdale is set to benefit from AusNet’s $3 million investment in Victoria’s future energy workforce, with six of 10 new traineeships starting this month based in regional areas, including one in Bairnsdale.
The traineeships aim to strengthen the skills needed to support Victoria’s energy transition and renewable targets, with AusNet receiving nearly 2,000 applications statewide last year.
AusNet Executive General Manager Distribution Andrew Linnie said the strong response highlighted the growing interest in careers supporting the state’s evolving energy system.
“Those selected showed a genuine passion for the energy transition, and we’re proud to have given them the opportunity to
build long-term careers close to home,”
Mr Linnie said.
The Bairnsdale trainee will join the Energy Project Coordinator program, which also includes positions in Leongatha, Sale, and Seymour. Other regional roles include Access Planning traineeships in Beaconsfield, Seymour, and Traralgon. Three trainees will work as Network Controllers in Melbourne.
“This program is about more than training. It’s about strengthening opportunities for regional communities and making
sure Victoria has the skilled workforce needed to deliver the energy transition,”
Mr Linnie said.
The three-year program offers a competitive starting salary, hands-on industry experience, and nationally recognised qualifications. Trainees completing the program will graduate with an Advanced Diploma of ESI – Power Systems and a clear pathway to permanent roles within AusNet.
“These trainees will finish the program fully qualified and ready to step into permanent roles supporting Victoria’s energy future,” Mr Linnie said.
