The East Gippsland Convoy for Kids is back, with the region’s transport industry once again uniting to raise vital funds for children’s charities.
Held every four years, the convoy will take place on Saturday, March 14, and is proudly presented by Gippsland Truck Centre. Proceeds this year will support Angel Flight and Camp Quality, organisations that assist children and families facing serious health challenges.
The convoy will depart from meeting points in Traralgon and Orbost before travelling across East Gippsland and converging at the Great Lakes Airfield in Lakes Entrance. Along the way, more trucks are expected to join, with the procession often building to 300 or more vehicles. Drivers and owner-drivers travel from across Victoria — and even from New South Wales — to take part, many bringing their families along.
The sight of hundreds of polished and decorated trucks rolling together has become a powerful display of camaraderie within the trucking community.
The family fun day at the airfield runs from 9am to 4pm, with the convoy expected to arrive about 11am. Attractions include food vans, helicopter rides, laser tag, segways, face painting, animals, music, static displays, stalls, lawn mower racing and Truckin’ with Tim. Visitors can walk the runway lined with hundreds of trucks and vote for the People’s Choice award.
Fundraising activities, including merchandise sales and a major auction at 1pm featuring donated items from local businesses and individuals, will contribute significantly to the total raised.
In the evening, drivers will gather for a meal and further fundraising, supported by East Vic Trucks and Kennedy Trailers. While the dinner has already sold out due to strong demand, industry members can still purchase a $30 bar ticket, which includes finger food and access to the auction.
The 2023 convoy raised $84,000 for children’s charities, and organisers are aiming to surpass that figure this year. Community members are encouraged to attend the family day, enter a truck in the convoy, sponsor the event or make a donation.
Those unable to attend are invited to safely line the convoy route — positioning themselves in service roads or on footpaths — to cheer on the drivers who generously donate their time, fuel and wages to support the cause.
