Bairnsdale resident, Leigh Venables, has been honoured with a Medal of Order of Australia for his services to the community in the King’s Birthday Honours.
Since arriving in Bairnsdale in 1984 with his wife, Brenda, and young children, Mr Venables has immersed himself in serving the community.
A member of the Mitchell River Rotary Club for more than 25 years, Mr Venables has held the positions of president, vice-president and secretary.
He was a Paul Harris Fellow in 1999, a youth exchange counsellor, and a board member of Gippsland Rotary Centenary House.
Mr Venables was the Rotary District Governor’s Representative twice from 1996-1997 and again in 2001-2002. He was Assistant District Governor in 2001-2002 for Rotary district 9820.
