Rehearsals are well underway for Bairnsdale Production Line Theatre Company’s upcoming production of & Juliet, which opens at The Forge Theatre on Friday, May 1, and runs through to a Sunday matinee on May 17.
Alongside the cast, attention is turning to the musicians who will bring the show’s pop soundtrack to life from the orchestra pit.
Leading the band is a familiar face in the local theatre community.
After many years working with Production Line as a vocal coach, Rebekah Axe is stepping into the role of music director for the first time.
Rebekah is well-known locally through her vocal studio, Axe Contemporary Vocals, where she has helped countless singers develop technique, confidence, and performance skills.
Through both teaching and work in local productions, she has supported numerous performers preparing for the spotlight.
Now, as music director for & Juliet, she brings that experience and musical expertise to the full production, guiding both the band and cast through a score packed with well-known pop hits.
“Who doesn’t love new challenges?” Rebekah said.
“Last year I stepped onto the stage for the first time in the role of Beulah in Come From Away, which was totally out of my comfort zone. This year I’m tackling another new role as music director. I’m having so much fun, learning new skills, and getting to work with amazing musicians. I’m so excited for everyone to see this show and hear this band.”
The live band plays a crucial role in shaping the sound and pace of the production, supporting the cast through a fast-moving score that blends contemporary pop songs with traditional musical theatre storytelling.
As rehearsals continue, the collaboration between musicians and performers is
building the vibrant musical energy at the heart of the show, ensuring audiences will experience the full impact of the lively soundtrack when the curtain rises.
& Juliet opens at The Forge Theatre on Friday, May 1, running for three weekends and concluding with a Sunday matinee on May 17.
Discounted early bird tickets are available until March 31.
