Local boxing talent Max Reeves will step into the ring on Easter Monday (April 5) at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre in the biggest fight of his career.
Reeves will take on Frances Waitai for the World Boxing Organisation Oriental super middleweight title on the Tim Tszyu–Denis Nurja undercard.
The Stratford-based 25-year-old returned to the ring in January on the Tszyu–Zerafa card, claiming a dominant unanimous points victory over Frenchman Sonny Abid, with all three judges scoring the six-round bout 60–54.
The win improved Reeves’ professional record to 12 wins, one loss and one draw, with many believing he remains unlucky not to be undefeated following a controversial loss to Tonga Tongotongo in June 2024.
Reeves has continued
to build a reputation as one of the emerging talents in the super middleweight division, with his combination of skill, stamina and ring awareness placing him on a strong trajectory in both domestic and international ranks.
Waitai, a New Zealand southpaw, enters the bout with a record of 13 wins, three losses and one draw. His defeats have come against Jack Gipp, Andre Mikhailovich and Jack Bowen, while he holds a notable win over Tej Singh.
An experienced campaigner, Waitai is expected to provide a stern test, though Reeves will enter the bout with growing confidence
and momentum.
Reeves’ coach, Paul Carroll, said his fighter was continuing to develop with every outing.
“Max is a huge talent, and he’s getting bigger, stronger and better all the time. We can’t wait to do it all again on another huge card of quality Australian boxing,” Carroll said.
Reeves is currently deep in preparation, sparring strongly as he counts down to another major opportunity to showcase his talent on the big stage.
