The thundering of hooves and the roar of the crowd echoed through East Gippsland’s High Country this Easter as two of the region’s most beloved traditions returned for a spectacular weekend of action.
The Omeo and Buchan Rodeos, cornerstones of the local events calendar, drew thousands of spectators and top-tier competitors from across Victoria and beyond.
From high-stakes bull riding to the lightning-fast precision of barrel racing and the raw grit of bronc busting, both events provided a masterclass in traditional rodeo skill.
The festivities began on Easter Saturday at the Omeo Rodeo, where a strong field of riders tested their mettle in front of a packed arena.
Favoured by ideal weather, the day offered more than just arena thrills; a festive, family-friendly atmosphere took hold of the grounds with live music, local food stalls and a deep sense of community hospitality.
On Easter Sunday, the momentum shifted to the Buchan Rodeo.
Set against the town’s iconic natural backdrop, the event continued the high-energy celebration.
The program delivered an action-packed schedule that featured standout performances from both seasoned veterans and the next generation of junior riders.
Off the dirt, the Buchan grounds were alive with entertainment, ensuring there was plenty to see and do for those taking a break from the edge-of-your-seat action in the ring.
Combined, the two rodeos provided a significant boost to the region, highlighting the enduring appeal of the High Country and the resilience of its sporting traditions.
As the dust settles on another successful Easter, both Omeo and Buchan have once again proven why they are must-visit destinations for rodeo fans across the country.
