Sunday saw the playing of the annual South Pines Plate in cold and windy conditions, with the odd light shower keeping all players honest.
The field consisted of 97 players who took to a course in fantastic condition, thanks to Greig Slight (course director) and his team of volunteers, including Billy Pratt, who mowed the greens and surrounds beforehand, and Mitch Mackenzie, who changed the pin placements early on Saturday morning.
Visiting teams competed from Drouin, Warragul, Trafalgar, Morwell, Yallourn, Traralgon, Heyfield, Loch Sport, Sale, Maffra and Metung golf clubs.
With current fuel prices, the club was particularly grateful for the strong level of support.
This year’s Plate was won by the local team of Steve Jewell, Mackenzie, Nick Mitchell and Matt Redenbach.
Mackenzie backed up his success by winning the Division 1 scratch event, with Peter Erwin taking out the nett section.
In Division 2, Sale’s Glenn Schaper was the winner, while Yallourn’s Matt Brewer was successful in Division 3.
