‘Read, Grow, Inspire’ was the message for Book Week across Victoria this year – always a big event on the High Country calendar, as students, early years’ children and parents dress in a colourful array of costumes, walk eagerly to various venues around the towns to experience the power of great stories read by members of the community.
Omeo Primary School, Swifts Creek P–12 School, Omeo High Country Early Learning Centre and Swifts Creek Kindergarten, together with pre-school families, joined in the celebrations to raise the awareness of literacy, and local businesses in the respective communities once again were keen to get involved in helping to deliver the message about the value of reading.
Book week started at Omeo on Monday, August 21, as students and staff paraded at morning assembly, dressed up as book characters and explained their character and their chosen book.
Groups of colourful characters spilled down the path and across to Omeo Rural and Hardware Supplies which is a long-term venue for Book Week readers.
