Residents across East Gippsland and South Gippsland can expect to see low-flying helicopters this week as AusNet carries out aerial inspections of the region’s electricity network.
The inspections are taking place until May 7 and include areas such as Bairnsdale, Lucknow, Nicholson and Bengworden, along with several towns across South Gippsland including Foster, Inverloch, Leongatha and Wonthaggi.
AusNet said the aerial inspections are an important part of maintaining a safe and reliable electricity supply for Victorian communities.
Using helicopters allows inspection crews to gain a bird’s-eye view of powerlines and poles, helping identify signs of wear, damage or potential faults that may not be as easily visible from the ground.
The company said the inspections enable maintenance teams to detect issues early and carry out repairs before they become larger problems or lead to outages.
AusNet has advised that helicopters may be seen flying at low levels during the inspection period and thanked communities for their understanding while the work is carried out.
