It might only be May, but the big announcements have begun in the Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA), with two significant signings confirmed last week.
The headline appointment sees Lakes Entrance Cricket Club announce Scott Davidson as its captain-coach for the 2026/27 season.
The Lindenow South Glenaladale star is a multiple premiership player and three-time winner of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association Cricketer of the Year award, including in 2025/26.
Davidson needs little introduction, a fierce competitor equally adept with bat or ball in hand, with the Seagulls hoping he can bring the winning culture he has long been associated with.
He also carries strong family ties to the club, with the current champion player award named after his uncle and life member Lindsay “Snow” Davidson, a 10-time winner — adding further significance to his appointment.
Now based at Lake Tyers Beach, Davidson is highly respected across the region and brings extensive experience and leadership to the role.
He said he was looking forward to getting started.
Meanwhile, St Mary’s Nagle has appointed Jayanga Peiris as club coach for the 2026/27 and 2027/28 seasons.
Peiris, who has previously played locally with Bruthen and Meerlieu, is a Level 1 accredited coach with extensive international playing and coaching experience.
During his time in Australia, he has amassed more than 4500 runs at an average of 30, with a strike rate of 185.5.
Last season, Peiris starred for Bundalaguah in the Sale–Maffra Cricket Association (SMCA), earning Team of the Year honours after scoring 500 runs, including a standout 151 against Sale.
He also made a strong contribution representing the SMCA in GCL cricket and has previously represented the BCA in GCL and Country Week competitions, alongside high-level playing experience in Sri Lanka.
