Bairnsdale Football Netball Club’s Gippsland League season concluded last weekend with both the “C” grade netball side and under 16 football side both eliminated in preliminary finals at Sale.
Maffra jumped the Redlegs in the fourths football, leading by 20 points at quarter time, Bairnsdale reverting to play catch up.
The young Redlegs battled gallantly, eventually succumbing by 38 points with Jobe Froud, Charlie Cook, Riley Lieuwen, Jesse Bills, Wil Malady (three goals) and Leo Sykes all named in the best.
Lindenow South young-ster, Zac O’Keefe, was among the best for the Ea-gles, and he looms as one of the key players if they are to beat Traralgon.
His premiership teammate, Seth Smith, will play in the under 18 grand final for Maffra against Warragul. The tall forward will need a big game if the Eagles are to beat the Gulls.
