Bruthen defeated Buchan by 101 points at Buchan Recreation Reserve last Saturday in round four of the Omeo District Football Netball League.
The margin was not entirely reflective of the contest, with the Cavemen throwing themselves into every contest and making the Bulldogs work for each goal throughout the day.
However, the class and ball use of Bruthen ultimately proved decisive, with Will Matthews, Harley Kenner, Nicholas Ward, Brendan Flinn and Raymond Giddings (game 300) among those driving the dominant performance.
Tyson Siddle was a standout for Buchan, shouldering much of the forward load and kicking all four of his team’s goals. His leading, marking and finishing were a highlight of the match, and he would have troubled the scoreboard significantly had he been in a more dominant side.
At the other end, competition leading goalkicker Jirra Moffat worked into the game as it progressed to finish with six goals, while Kenner also impressed with five majors from a midfield role.
Jock Coates battled strongly for the Cavemen, with Connor McCormack, James Woodgate and Michael O’Callaghan ensuring their opponents earned every possession.
Lucas Lakey was clearly best on ground, dominating in the ruck and across half-back, and combining effectively with Kenner and Ward. Matthews and Dylan Doecke were also solid contributors across the backline in a comprehensive team display.
