The Make-A-Wish Australia East Gippsland Volunteer Branch celebrated a resounding success earlier this month, hosting a sold-out High Tea at The Riversleigh, its first event of this kind in more than a decade.
The event raised funds to support Make-A-Wish Australia in its life-changing work granting wishes to critically ill children across the country.
Tickets were snapped up well in advance, highlighting strong community support and anticipation for the long-awaited gathering.
Guests enjoyed the opportunity to dress up, meet new friends, catch up with old ones and enjoy an elegant afternoon, all while supporting a worthy cause.
The afternoon included more than just High Tea, with the branch’s annual Mother’s Day raffle drawn on the day, and a beautiful bunch of flowers presented as a lucky door prize.
Branch president, Dave Williams, said it was particularly rewarding to see a mix of new and familiar faces in attendance.
“It was wonderful to see so many new faces attending a Make-A-Wish event for the first time, along with many familiar ones continuing their support for all we do,” he said.
Dave highlighted the direct impact of such community support, noting several wishes currently being prepared for children in East Gippsland.
“We have a handful of wishes currently being designed for some very excited East Gippsland kids, including one young girl who is heading off today on an adventure with her family to meet the quokkas on Rottnest Island,” he said.
He also emphasised the heart of the
organisation’s mission.
“Make-A-Wish is not about finding cures, but about making wishes come true for children with critical illnesses and creating wonderful memories for them and their families.”
The event raised an impressive total of $1997, with all funds going towards helping grant life-changing wishes for children nationwide.
Following the overwhelming success of the day, the volunteer branch is hopeful it will become a regular feature on its events calendar.
