Bairnsdale music lovers will be treated to a night of live jazz next month when Melbourne trad and swing band The Ramblers stop in East Gippsland on their way to the Merimbula Jazz Festival.
The band will perform at the Bairnsdale Golf Club at Eagle Point on June 4, coinciding with the club’s regular Thursday pizza and pasta night.
Known for their energetic and toe-tapping performances, The Ramblers will make an overnight stop in Bairnsdale as part of their road trip to Merimbula.
“We knew we’d be making an overnight stop on the 4th,” band spokesperson Glenn Davidson said.
“The last thing we want to do is sit around in a motel when we could be making music somewhere, so we looked around for a venue that might enjoy a bit of old-fashioned jazz.”
Bairnsdale Golf Club manager Jeff Graham said the timing worked perfectly for both the club and local music fans.
“It’s lucky for us – and local jazz fans – that The Ramblers’ visit coincides with our regular Thursday pizza and pasta night,” Mr Graham said.
“It’s always a relaxed and informal atmosphere in our dining room, and The Ramblers will turn June 4 into an unforgettable night of good food and music.”
The Ramblers perform a wide repertoire of jazz and swing classics spanning from the early 20th century through to modern favourites, drawing on years of experience entertaining audiences across Victoria.
The band is also inviting local musicians and singers to join them during the evening.
“We’ll be playing songs that are familiar to just about everyone,” Mr Davidson said.
“If there’s anyone game to get up and sing along with us, they’ll be made most welcome. We’ll even provide song sheets to guide them.”
The Bairnsdale Golf Club has been running its pizza and pasta nights for several months, though this will be the first time live music has been added to the event.
Meals will be served from 4pm, with The Ramblers scheduled to perform from 7pm.
Bookings are not required before 6pm, however reservations after 6pm are recommended due to expected demand.
