The top four sides were all successful in round seven of the East Gippsland Football Netball League, led by ladder leader Lucknow, who completed the first round of matches unbeaten.
The Magpies didn’t have it all their own way, with Lindenow playing some outstanding netball. However, it was the premiership favourite who made the most of forced turnovers and remained steady under the ring when challenged, running out 42-34 winners.
The Cats have certainly improved their list in 2026, but they will need to convert these honourable losses into victories if they are to push for a finals spot in August. Centre court dynamo and Magpie coach Erica Lynch was in sensational form for the winners, well supported by the consistent Hayley Escudero. Anna Websdale and Ash Forehan led a spirited rearguard action for the Cats.

Second-ranked Stratford shook off a dogged Lakes Entrance to secure a solid away victory, 62-45. The Seagulls were far from disgraced, getting plenty of youthful exuberance from Tayla Mills and Makayla Grabham. Sierra Cook and Keira McNicol were pivotal in the win for the reigning premier Swans, who are tracking along nicely within striking distance of Lucknow.
Third-ranked Wy Yung was too good for Orbost Snowy Rovers at home, emerging victorious 56-33. Sophie Bills starred for the Tigers, while Chelsea Di Cecco and Lara Seal both impressed for the Blues.
Fourth-placed Boisdale Briagolong was an easy winner over Paynesville, claiming a 60-30 victory at the Cabbage Patch. While it was one of the Gulls’ better performances of the campaign, they still turned the ball over too regularly when put under pressure by a measly Bomber defence unit, with the ball quickly transitioning down court to count on the scoreboard.
Ciara Fitt, Emerson Connally, Zara Flynn, and Taryn Cunningham were standouts for the Bombers, while Emily Hall, Lucy Weston and Mel Ferris all battled hard for the Gulls.
All teams will enjoy a well-deserved week off this weekend for the long weekend holiday.
