The Paynesville Probus Club recently enjoyed a scenic and inspiring day trip to the Briagolong Art Gallery, treating members to a private viewing of works by celebrated local blind artist Jeff McNeill.
While the autumn weather was on the club’s side, a few navigational ‘gremlins’ appeared early in the journey when one member took his passengers on an extended pre-morning tea detour.
Fortunately, the stray travellers backtracked successfully and arrived in time for the main event.
Members extended their sincere thanks to the volunteers at the Briagolong Art Gallery, who specially opened the doors for the Paynesville group so they could meet Mr McNeill in person and view his extraordinary collection.
Those in attendance expressed absolute amazement at the artist’s profound talent, as well as the unique, tactile techniques he utilises to create such vibrant visual pieces.
Following the gallery tour, the group moved on to the nearby Briagolong Quarry reserve for lunch, allowing the travellers to refuel, stretch their legs, and explore the surrounding bush tracks and bubbling creek lines.
With lunch concluded, the majority of the convoy commenced the journey back to Paynesville, with trip leader David guiding the group home via an alternative scenic route.
Meanwhile, four adventurous members ventured further into the foothills to explore the iconic Blue Pool deep-water swimming hole.
Club members extended a big thank you to Beth and David for their flawless coordination of a highly successful regional day out.
