Government House recently hosted regional organisers responsible for running the largest “blokes’ lunches” across country Victoria, celebrating their efforts in raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health ahead of Men’s Health Week.
Local representatives David Zagami (Bairnsdale), Trent Fairweather (Sale), Mick Grogan (Warragul), and Steve Travis (Shepparton) joined Brad Hiton and David Portell (Bendigo), alongside Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia chairman Adjunct Associate Professor Steve Callister for the official gathering last Thursday.
The event, which drew an audience of around 100 people, also served to formally recognise the 30-year anniversary milestone of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
In a timely release for Men’s Health Week, Professor Rob Newton AM has authored a new book titled My Exercise Medicine for Cancer, offering a practical self-help guide for patients to design their own exercise regimens to help manage prostate cancer.
According to Professor Newton, men who engage in structured exercise while undergoing cancer treatment report reduced fatigue, improved mood, increased strength, better physical function, greater tolerance to medical treatments, and a stronger sense of personal control.
