Whether you have a new home with a blank canvas or an existing property with a small patch that needs a lift, an upcoming workshop could help you establish a beautiful native garden.
The Australian Native Plant Society East Gippsland (ANPSEG) is hosting a ‘Create a small garden with native plants’ workshop on Saturday, June 27, as part of the popular East Gippsland Winter Festival.
Participants will learn how to design compact garden spaces, view examples of successful small gardens, and discover appropriate Australian native plants. Attendees will also have the opportunity to draw up their own designs with ANPSEG members on hand to help identify the best plants for their specific areas.
“You will also get hints on soil preparation, plant size, best positioning, when to plant, when the plants flower, availability, and maintenance,” event organiser Nicholas Meadley said.
“Native gardens can be very colourful and are likely to attract a range of local birds for your enjoyment.
“You will be pointed to further resources for the ongoing development of your garden. You can also obtain advice on plants for pots if you do not have much garden space,” Mr Meadley said.
The workshop will be held at The Hub, located at 27 Dalmahoy Street, Bairnsdale.
Afternoon tea will be provided, along with a door prize and a free plant for every participant. A variety of native plants will also be available for purchase on the day.
