Boisdale Briagolong earned bragging rights over its western rival Stratford with a convincing 36-point round 10 East Gippsland football win last Saturday at Boisdale.
Boasting arguably its strongest side of the season, barring injured key forward Jesse Bedggood, the Bombers set the tone in a blistering first quarter and never looked back, the swans behind the eight ball from the outset.
The home side powered to a 35-point quarter time lead, with its lively forward line consisting of coach Sam Bedggood, captain Jim Reeves, classy Cal Egan and damaging Tom Jolly all got a taste.
The Swans fought back in the second quarter, however five goals to two in a dominant third quarter saw the Bombers seal victory.
With the cue in the rack Stratford slammed on six goals to two in the final term, however it was too little too late.
Jolly (four goals), Beddggood (four), Reeves (four) and Egan (two) combined for 14 of the side’s 16 goals, while the less than full strength Swans got multiples from Rodney O’Keefe, Tom Schacht, Declan Scriven and Will Webb.
Jolly and midfield gun Kel Porter were major ball winners for the Bombers with runners Broden Kewish and Shaymus Wain also prolific, while for Stratford emerging ruckman Floyd Fulton got the edge in the battle with Matt Willkinson, with Scriven, Alex Morcom and Harry Langford also Nathan French performed well.
The win sees the Bombers open a small advantage on the Swans on the ladder, and with Orbost Snowy beating Lakes Entrance last weekend the Blues are now within striking distance of Startford in fourth spot.
