Tyler Moreland is a young man facing a tough health battle, and he needs your support.
The young man from Bairnsdale was born with a genetic condition called neurofibromatosis (NF1). It is a condition that causes tumours to grow on nerves.
NF1 is a variable disorder, which means that it can affect children in many different ways. It usually causes freckles or spots, most often on the skin or eyes, and benign (not cancer) swelling or lumps around the nerves.
Many children with NF1 have no or very few medical problems, but about four in 10 children will have some complications.
Treatment for NF1 depends on the particular medical problems your child develops.
Tyler was recently diagnosed with another tumour that is growing on his optic nerve and it is greatly impacting his eyesight.
“Unfortunately we have had to start chemotherapy treatments in attempt to save his vision,” his mother Kim Commons said.
“We need to travel to the Royal Children’s Hospital every 2-4 weeks for treatments and appointments for the foreseeable future.
“We are kindly asking for some help to cover the additional costs sustained due to this as we have been trying to cover the costs ourselves but are falling behind.
“I am not able to work as I am caring for Tyler and Tyler’s father is not able to work as much as he usually would to support our family as he is looking after two of our other children while Tyler and I travel.
“The decision to make a GoFundMe was not easy, but we would really appreciate your help on getting on top of our expenses so we can support Tyler in the best way possible.”
Ms Commons said contributions will help their family:
– Get accomodation as needed when not covered by Ronald McDonald.
– Feed their children, especially extra food costs during travel.
– Additional medical costs (any medication prescriptions, new glasses).
– Monthly bills they are falling behind on (rent, electricity, gas, phones).
– Pay for their commute (mostly car fuel costs and maintenance of the car, but occasionally flights).
“If you are unable to donate to help us, we would really appreciate if you shared instead,” Ms Commons said.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our family and most importantly Tyler through this.”
