A new trophy was struck for Metung Yacht Club (MYC) in 2023 and was awarded for the first time at the end of the 2023-2024 sailing season.
The perpetual trophy, in honour of Les and Gai Clough and Buster and Robyn Hooper, was donated by Buster and Robyn, to be awarded to a woman who is a member of the MYC.
While the trophy is titled Woman on Water, it is intended to honour a recipient who demonstrates selflessness and contributes to the success of the club, off and/or on the water.
The inaugural recipient was Jeanette Severs, who was commended for her keenness to learn as a sailor, returning to the sport after a long hiatus.
Severs undertook adult learning to sail courses and sought mentoring from other club members, becoming a valuable crew member on several boats owned by MYC members, and participating in club races.
Severs has also contributed significantly in a volunteer role as the communications advisor, coordinating photographers and taking photographs herself and as the media liaison person for the MYC.
