Bairnsdale’s reserves will face Maffra in the Gippsland League qualifying final at Maffra this Saturday after defeating Sale in the final home and away round by 21 points.
The Redlegs kicked two goals in each quarter, but importantly held the Magpies goalless in the second and fourth quarters.
Liam Bleyswyk continued his outstanding season with a best afield performance, youngster Ryan Cullinan showed his class in his return from the senior team, while Paul Bills, Jamie Dore, Jobe Froud (two goals) and Sam Hopkins were also named among the best. Logan Dunkley kicked three goals.
The under 18 Bairnsdale side ended its season with a hard-earned seven-point win over the Magpies.
The Redlegs led by 21 at half time with Sale yet to register a goal, however the home side fired back jnto the contest with a three-goal to zero third quarter.
The Magpies would eventually have three more scoring shots, however inaccuracy proved costly as Bairnsdale secured
victory.
Jesse Bills, Ryan Cullinan, Charlie Cook, Samuel O’Kelly, Campbell Reed and Tyson Matthews were the best performers with the side having seven individual goal scorers.
Bairnsdale’s under 16s will meet Wonthaggi in an elimination final at Bairnsdale City Oval this Sunday despite a 27-point final round loss to Sale.
Despite leading at half time, the Redlegs had no answer for the Magpies in the second half, kicking one goal to Sale’s six.
Best players were Kael Frith, Douglas Ashby, Archer Crawley, Jobe Froud, Oscar Baylis and Harry McGuinn.
