It was always going to be a hard game for East Gippsland United’s under 15 against Traralgon City White last Saturday, sitting one spot above the Eagles at second place on the Latrobe valley Soccer League ladder.
Traralgon hit hard with lots of play in its forward for the first few minutes, using their bodies to their advantage, but the Eagles’ defenders kept them under control.
At eight minutes Cooper Claridge sent a pass off to Jesse Williams who ran the ball into goal. The keeper ran out but Williams evaded him with the first goal of the match.
The Eagles’ defenders had a tough game being attacked over and over and at 20 minutes Traralgon evened the score 1-1.
In the second half the Eagles put in their all, but the goals just wouldn’t come.
At 41 minutes Traralgon took a penalty right in front of goal where keeper Reagan Nash took a dive to make a stunning save.
Claridge and Williams had some close strikes but unfortunately couldn’t convert.
Hirahni Hudson was stretchered off with a knee injury and another player was brought off with a wrist injury leaving the team one player down for some time.
Traralgon took its opportunities and scored two more goals, with a final score 3-1.
This weekend the junior teams start their cup competitions.
